THE ELLESMERE COUNTY.

TO THE EDITOR OF "THE r?.ESS. v Sir,—The Rev. T. G. Butler's letter cannot be allowed to go -without challenge. I have made careful investigation and have not been able to discover the number of cases of insolvency which he says have occurred in Leeston during the past year, and which he says can be proved to the satisfaction of business men in the town. Mr Butler would have been much wiser not to bavo made the statement at all. Furthermore, he must know that. the misfortunes of an individual, or his afflictions, do not prove that the town is unsound financially, or that it has reached the limit of its progress.—Yours, etc., LEESTON READER.
