(BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT) (AUBTBALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) LONDON, October 27. The "Athletic News,'' in an article headed "Degrading Test Cricket," "Practice That Should Be Banned," roundly condemns the proposal of an Australian firm seeking advertisement and offering cash bonuses to Australian players for outstanding performances. "If a player will not do his uttermost without these specious inducements, he is not worth a place in the team, nor is acceptance of a 'tenner' for a century within England's idea of amateurism. i\o doubt the Australian cricketer is not much, troubled about the label, or' shall we eay his conception of amateurism is quite foreign to our rule? There is not much likelihood of either English, or Australian Boards of Control interfering with these obnoxious proposals. Yet it might be worth while to take action forbidding the players to accept such prizes."

[The Australian Board' of Control fixed the customary honorarium for the forthcoming tests at £3O a match, with an additional £1 a day for expenses when the player is away from his own State. These amounts will be supplemented by the proprietors of a certain article of commerce, who have undertaken to pay the Australians 3s for every boundary hit, £1 for every smite over the pickets, the same for every catch, £lO for each century compiled within two hours audi a half, and £25 for the best bowling average, the winner to have played in at least three matches and taken at least ten wickets.]
