REDCLIFFS LOAN.
APPREHENSION ALLAYED.
(special to "the press.")
WELLINGTON, October 28,
In connexion with the proposal to ask Parliament for authority to raise an additional £SOOO without a poll, the security being the Redcliffs sewerage special rating area, Mr J. McCombs, M.P., received the following telegram from the Mayor of Sumner:— "No mention of the Redcliffs loan in the Canterbury clauses of the 'Washing Up'. Bill as published in this morning's papers. I trust your efforts will be successful. Approximately 1500 wageearjiing ratepayers are affected." Mr McCombs has replied as follows: "Be the Redcliffs supplementary loan to enable the Council to make advances to ratepayers to meet the cost of connecting with the main sewer: Your Council having failed to ask for authority from the ratepayers at the poll and having failed to proceed by way of a Local Bill, I suggested a clause in the 'Washing Up' Bill, but as it was too late to get it in the main Bill, it will appear on a supplementary Order Paper. You can rest assured that the Redcliffs ratepayers will not be neglected at this end.''
