FELL OFF TRAM.
SERIOUS ACCIDENT AT SUMNEB. A serious accident occurred on the 8.30 car at Sumner last evening. When nearing Btoko street, a passenger, Matthew Law, believed to be a farmer residing at Fcndalton, and who was staying in Dryden strcot, fell off the rear platform of tho car. Ho was returning to tho city in company with his son. Ho was apparently in tho set of pushing the bell an tho platform and overbalanced. 'La felling, h© struck his head severely and was rendered unconscious. At th« time of tho accident tho car was travelling ten to fifteen miles an hour. Constable Hampton, whose hons© is close at hand to the scene- of the accident, was summoned and conveyed tho injured man to Dr.* Slater's house, where it was found that h© was bleeding profusely, and had suffered severe injuries to his head. H« was taken to the- Christchurch Hospital immediately.
