SWIMMING.
SUCCESSFUL CARNIVAL. A well-attended swimming carnival in - aid of the Sir Arthur Pearson Memorial Fund for the Civilian Blind, was held by the Can. • terbury Centre oI ■. the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association at the Tepid Baths on Saturday night. The soratchings were very few, and the long programme extended to well over two and a half hours. The races were keenly contested, and spectators showed much enthusiasm. The novelty evpnte, ©specially the one in which the men had, to swim in clothes, put everyone, even the contestants, in a good humour. The officials were:—Kef wee, Mr H. S. Williams ; judges, Messrs G. W. Cooke, A. L. Wilkinson, J. W Toomey, W. H. Benson, and W. E. D. Bishop; timekeepers, Messrs P. Mensies, H. S. Batchelor, and L. A. Sht.nd; starters, Messrs C. Bryant, H. Hirst, and C. L. Kent; inter-club handioapper, Mr A. R. Brunsden; local consul, Mr D. Coulter: carnival secretary, Mr R. B. Wheeley. Time, 76 X-ss. Final (5): Batchelor 1, H. G. Smith 2. Time, 62 2-ssec. Wilkinson was . disqualified and Taylor did not start.
