'., t ■ WIDOW AWARDED DAMAGES. I (PEESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) . AUCKLAND, June 3. In the claim by Mrs Annie Olive Jones for £3OOO damages for the loss of her husband at Endean's Buildings on February Ist, the jury awarded £3OO dam- j ages for the widow and £7OO for her j child, against Norman Taylor, master painter, trading as John Henderson and Od. The following rider was presented by the jury:—"That the practice of the Labour Department in permitting work without issuing a written permit is wrong, and that the provisions of th© Scaffolding Act should, in justice, be complied with." His Honour: Yes, that is quite right, gentlemen. The question of the effect of the jury's findings was reserved for argument.
