Before the late Mr Horace MooreJones, who met his death in the recent fire at Hamilton, painted his picture, "Private Simpson, V.C., and his donkey 'Murphy,' " he made an impressionist study of his subject (says the Auckland "Herald"). The artist retained this picture in his possession, and a proposal is now beinjr made that it should be purchased by the residents of Hamilton to hang for the time being in the Public Library. This, it is thought, would mark in a fitting way the town*3 respect for the man who painted it. and be a permament memorial to him.
