"POTTING" THE COMMANDMENTS.
I Not content with radically revising the wording of the marriage ceremony, the committee of the Episcopalian Church proposes to suggest to the general convention, to he held at Portland, Oregon, next September, that the Ten Commandments be boiled down and pub.ished in the . Book of Common grayer, together with the Commandments in full, so that ministers *'miiy ]ia>e the option as to which form ,they use in the services. Under the short form of the Commandments the first remains unchanged, likewise the sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth. The others are severeiy blue-penciled; the second leaves, out alLafter the words, "Thou shalt not bow down to them or worship them." The third is cut to "Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain." In the fourth the only part ..retained reads, "Remember that thou keep holy the Sabbath-day," The fifth merely commands, "Honour thy father and "mother." The tenth Commandment, the . shortest, reads, "Thou shalt not covet." The committee also boldly decided to recommend the addition to the calendar of most of the Saints' days'-eliminated by ■ the' Reformation, and endeavoured to anticipate the^-storm of, criticism : .expected frpnj the puritanical element by designating them "memorial," -instead of "Saints'". days.'
