PAPANUI PROGRESS LEAGUE.
The monthly meeting of the Papanui Progress League was held in the Library Hall last night. Mr W. J. Boyce (president) occupied the chair. The Rev. T. N. Griffin (secretary) reported upon the meeting of the commissioners regarding Greater Christchurch on May 9th, when the objectors to the amalgamation of Papanui with the city gave evidence. He said that he had interviewed the county clerk for the reason of the etatement made to the commissioners that 08 of thoee who signed the petition were not ratepayers, and was told that their names were not on the legal roll in the office, but that roll had been made up in January, 1920. Should a poll be taken a new roll would be made up, when it would be probable that most,- if not the whole, of those names would be upon the roll. The meeting regretted that the impression might have got abroad that an effort had been made to get signatures unfairly, and also emphasised the need for every ratepayer ereing for himself that his nt.mo was upon the roll. It was reported that the petition for the opening of the Post Office at midday was being considered by the Postmaster-General. The need for improvement on the Main North road was dwelt upon, but fuller consideration was deferred till the commissionera's report had been dealt with.
