NAVY LEAGUE.

CANTERBURY BRANCH. The General Committoo of the Canterbury (N.Z.) Branch of tho Navy League met last night, Jfr H. J. lf>rrin<*r (president) proaiding. The Finance Committee reported that it had como to no decision regarding u, proposed building; sito in haimoxa street tor a nail. The chairman peparted that a tablet and stained glass window to the memory of the late Hev. hiiiot Chambers had been unveiled at Lytteltca at an unpreauvo ceremony. The financial statement showed tnat the receipts since last meeting aniouned to £lO5 as lUd, and expenditure to £oi 17s 10d. Tne bank balances were; —Bank oi Now Zealand £42 6», teat Office Saving* Bank (general; £S2U 16s. It was decided that £2OO, the balance of the sum voted to the flea Bcoute, should be paid over. The chairman said he was pleased to seo that tho Scouts had obtained tho Annw Hill as a training ship. The idea ougns to prove the nucleus far the New Zealand Navy. Jir Or. Lancaster said he understood Nelson, Pioton, Beefton, Kaikoura, and other places had followed Canterbury in the Sea Scout movement. The secretary reported that the loose ot the hall .expired on August 16th. A further leases for five years could be had at a rental of £2 per week. It was resolved to renovr the lease. The secretary etated that Navy League members at tho East Christchurch and Normal Schools were respectively 63 and 69. The Wellington branch advised that tho New Zealand conference would bo held ut Wellington on August Ist and 2nd nest. Tno following delegates wore elected to attend the conference:—Tho president. Mis Bealey, and Messrs '£. H. Foster, J. J. Dougall, H. Holland, and. W. Walton. The secretary reported he had received enquiries from youths anxious to join tho New Zealand branch of the Boyal Navy. li*> Department had advised that it intended enrolling a small number of Belected recruits.
