ECONOMIES AND SAVINGS.
(special to "the fress.") INVERCARGILL, Juno 1. The Prim© Minister to-night quoted the following statement, compiled from Departmental returns supplied to the Treasury, concerning the savings effected in expenditure:—
Increased charges had, however, to "be met on account of: £ Interest and Sinkincr Fund 610,685 Scale increases to classified salaries .. 228,443 * This includes accounts outside the Consolidated Fund—viz., Public Works Department, Public Trust OfficP, Government Insurance, Hoiming Branch, "War Expenses, Forestry Department, State Advances Office, etc.
