annual meeting. The annual meeting of the M»lo Voice Choir was held last evening at the Carlton Cafe, Mr "\Y. Koece presiding ores a good attendance. Tho annual report stated that the past year had been the most strenuous in the history of tho Choir, owing to tho increased public patronage. Each of tho four concerts Had b?en given thr<* times, making twelve performances during the year. JJy the issue of concession tickets some 400 secondary school pupils had been entertained. IHe report regretted the failure ot tho 'city to obtain a town hall, and gave an assurance that effort would bo made to keep the need for a concert chamber in view. Tlie present holder of the Male Voice Choir scholarship Miss Frances K. Hamerton, had entered the third year of her study, and had secured her Lab Whether another scholarship would be offered had yet to be decided, but it was safe to express tho opinion that tho money in hand, which really canvo from the musicloving community, might well be handed back t/> the citv l>v means of vocal scholarships. The Choir gave its support to the Royal Christchurch Musical Society in a performance of "Tho Messiah," which was attended bv over 5000 people. In addition |to the .nany performances given by wdiI vidual members in aid of chanties, tne \ whole Choir had combined with the Musical 1 Society in a sacred concert given m the ! Gardens in r.irl of the Hospital and OrphanI age Fund. The subscription list showed 835 | subscribers for the year, aa against 753 last ' year. In conclusion, the report offered the ' thank? of the Choir to all who had assisted ! it during the year. ! Tho treasurer's statement showed reofipis £962 9s Gd, including balance carried for- ' ward from previous year £347 6s 2d. Ihe ! expenditure amounted to £657 5* 7d, leav- : ing a credit balance of £305 3s lid. -th assets exceeded the liabilities by £412 2s sd. ; The chairman, in moving tho adoption of the report and balance-sheet, said that the members had every reason to be gratified at the position disclosed. Ho considered the Choir had done the right thing in going into recess, but ho thought it would b© a. wise policv to continue their practices and build up the Society in anticipation of Dr. Bradshaw's seturn. Mr R. C. Bishop seconded tho motion, which was carried. The officers were all re-elected. On the motion of Mr A. Allan, it was agreed to recommend to thi> Society that tt>s Society should hold frequent practices under tho conductorship of Mr C. Clarkson. After th? disposal of the formal business, the remainder of tine evening was spent m an enjoyable social manner.
