ALLEGED SWINDLING
LAWSON ACQUITTED. <By Cable—Press Association—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association..; LONDON, May 30. Charles Lawson was acquitted. [A message received on May 17th said,: Charles Lawson, a fiumcr, aged forty-five, who was arrested at Southampton last week, has been charged with obtaining £25,000 from David K.. Hall by means of trickery. Hall met Macanally, another of tho. gang, who claimed to be a \Test Australian squatter, during a voyage from Australia in May, 191 U. Hall was induced to go to Alfred Dean's flat where, without any idea that anything war wrong, lie lost £8704 to Lawson aim i'--.:n in twenty minutes. Later, he W- money in a betting deal. Hall gave evidence tihat he dealt in cattle and horses in Australia and New Zealand. Ho faaid he camo to England to buy cattle for the New Zealand Government. Macanally, Dean, and Dudley have already been sentenced to five years' imprisonment.]
