The monn ment resembles a Doric Temple. It required a decade to construct tho massive columns of wlnte- marble fifty feet high, enclosing the statue of Lincoln which is thirty tret high. Mr Wilson was unable to attend.

President Harding said that President Lincoln would not have abolished slavery if the Union could have been held together without its abolition. He eulogised Lincoln, but saitl that, like Washington, Lincoln was not a superman. He was a very natural human being, with the mixe'i frailties and virtues of humanity. The President concluded with an exhortation to American people to maintain, their unity, setting a helpful example to the world.
