NELSON CITY COUNCIL'S ASSISTANCE.
(SPKCIAL TO "THE TRESS.") KELSON', April 1. At, lust, night's mooting of the Nelson Oity Council a letter was received from Mr James Sullivan, who -proposes to film a picture in Nelson, asking for permission, to use tho old basin at tho re£'orvoir,.and also th« Botanical Reserve, for the production of moving pictures The writer stated that some thousands of pounds would be expended in the production . , ~ The Mayor nnd Cr, Plum supported the reqvest. . ._ Cr Edwards said the matter was going to bo of great benefit to Nelson,, far more so than, was generally realised. Only that day he had been speaking to a lady visitor from England, who remarked how nice it would be to tell her daughter to go and see such nnd such a picture in London, as it would! show the surrounding in Nelson. He heartilv supported the request being granted. "Ct. Nightingale taid the Council ought to do its best to encourage tho venture. The Mayor said it would be one of the best advertisements Nelson ever had The application showed that Nelson was the beat place in New Zealand for the purpose of film-pro-ducing. The application was granted.
