FRUIT EXPORT.

AWAITING THE LONDON VEBOTOT Xho export of ill© New Zealand fruit crops is proceeding as well as the various little difficulties naturally attendant upon the j building up of a now industry will allow j (says the "Dominion"). Quite a number of j small shipments havo already been made. In „the main, the fruit haa been forwarded to London, but a few thousand cases have been j recently shipped to Glasgow. Shipping space has again been the difficulty, necessitating numerous small shipments, while the ber of cases shipped could have been readily accommodated and much more conveniently handled by a considerably smallei number of boats. 'Xhe shipping companies state that owing to the heavy calls on refrigerating space the difficulty is unavoidable, but there i 3 some consolation in the probability that ample space will be available in subsequent years. The 8.0. Westmoreland, which left isew Zealand on March 24th with a consignment of fruit, has not yet reached her Home destination. She will not do so for some little time yet, and until she does be impossible to say what prices Xew. Zealand fruit is Ukely to realise on the Homo markets. Prices for fruit arriving in good condition last year wero more than satisfactory, while earlier reports were more unfavourable at this time than they are this season* D©3pito this, however, growers are fully expecting, in consequence of the possible reduced purchasing power of fciJe fruit-consum-ing people at Home, a price somewhat lower than they received lost year. Considerable interest is being taken in this year's export, as upon it the prospects of the industry largely depend. KIR WEE STOCK SALE. It is proposed to use the sawmills' waste as the raw material. This proposal, it is eaid, which will considerably r'dnce our foreign trade account for papeT, will be welcomed as helping towards a solution of the economic utilisation of the forest resources.
