SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTIONS.
WRITTEN NOMINATIONS. Nominations of candidates for seats on school committees, to be elected at the approaching annual meetings of householders, close at 8 p.m. next Wednesday, April sth. Householders sihould note that the system under which verbal nominations aie not taken at the annual meeting, but must be sent in in writing before tho annual meeting, haa been extended. Hitherto the system of written nominations has applied only to schools in urban areas which, in the case of tlhe Canterbury Education District, meant the schools in Christchurch and Timaru. Under the Education Amendment Act, 1920, it ia provided that in the case of school districts in which the average attendance for the year 1021 exoeeded 120, no verbal nominations can be accepted at tfno annual meetings of householders, but must be given in writing some time before. A circular letter drawing attention to this alteration of the law haa been sent by the secretary of the Canterbury Education Board to every school committee in the district and also to every head-teacher. As the Board is anxious that the forthcoming elections shall be conducted in accordance with tlhe Act, the hope ia expressed that the information contained in the circular letter will be widely circulated amongst householders prior to the annual meeting, so that no householder will be disappointed on finding that he cannot (in the cases specified) make verbal nominations of candidates at the annual meeting., The school districts in tllie Canterbury Education District (in addition to those in the urban areas of Christchurch and; Timaru) to which .the new provisions apply are: Aknroa, Allenton, Ash burton Main, Belfast Main, Blackball, Cashmere, Cobden, Fairlio, Fendaltoa, Geraldine, -Greymouth [District High, Hampsteady Harewood, Heathcote Valley, Hokitika District High, Hornby, Kaiapoi, Kaikoura Town, Lyttelton District High, Lyttelton West, Methven, Now Brighton.
