Bichmond Hill Golf Club. The opening of the season of tho local Golf Club takes place this afternoon. Tho recent rains have greatly improved tho fairway and greens, and tho season promises to be one of tho most successful the club has experienced. Tho committee has limited tho membership, and this is now filled, both tho gentlemen and the ladies having a waiting list. The season's programme) includes a large number of club matches, and competitions will l>o commenced this atteinoon, when mixed foursomea over nine holes will bo plawd. Tho president or tho club, Mr'\Y. F. Raphael, will open tho season wfliile the lady members arc providing afternoon tea. Sumner Presbyterian Chuich. On Sunday last harvest thanks-giving services were held, when thero were largo -jongregations at o.idh service, the church being tastefully decorated. The preacher was the Rev. \Y. McAia, whsa morning subject was ''Our Dcpendeneo upon God"; and the evening subject waS "God's Purposes." At the morning service the children's choir rendered an anthem, entitled "Tiio Children's Part." On "Wednesday evening a congregational social was held, when ttcre was a very large attendance, the Rev. \V. MeAra presiding. Short addresses were given by the Rev. N. Webster (At. Andrew's), the llev. J. IX Webster (St David'sl, and Messrs Lang, Smith, and llamptoii. Vocal items were given by Mrs Mogeridge, Miss Sharp, Messrs Charters and Smit.h, jun., Miss Sharp acting as accompanist. The ladies of tho P.W.M.W. provided supper, for which they received a- special vote of thanks. During the evening opportunity was taken to congratulate Mr IX B. MoLeod (a member of the Church Committee) upon his success at the recent University examinations, Mr McLeod having obtained the degree of Doctor of Science. A very successful) gathering was closed witili the National Anthem and tho Doxnlogv.
Children's Recital. A very enjoyable children's concert was given by Miss Eldred's pupils in the Town Hall on Tuesday evening, when there was a good attendance in spite of the weather. Amongst those taking part were: Mollie Lee, Bylleo Brown, Rita Andrews, Joan Voller, Naicla McAulay, Hilgrovo Oo>.set, Frank Coe, Mollie'Abiivn, Je;m Coleman, Softon Dalv, Phyllis Fitzhenry, Miss M. Barber, Molly Cadle, Xora Jones, Alva Cadle, and Eunico Whitfield. All Saints' Church. The harvest thanksgiving services were iliold last Sunday, when the church, wag beautifully decorated with corn, fruits, and vegetables. There were largo congregations ;it all the services. The vicar, the Rev. E. C. W. Powell, preached at the morning service, while the Rev. Cation W. S. Bean preached at the evening service. Bowling Club. The members of the Bowling Club are bringing to a close this afternoon what has been the most successful season since the club's commencement some nine years ago. The membership i? now over one hundred, and the successes of the season include the winning of the A Pennants and tho Champion of Champion Rinks. The green throughout tho season lrns been in first-class order, and for this the members are indebted to the untiring efforts of Mr F. C. Malpas, who has acted as green superintendent. By closing the season to-day it will enable the young grass to come on before tho cold weather sets in.
