N.Z. UNIVERSITY.

TOURNAMENT NOTES. Tho Canterbury College "Review" for March, which was published yesterday, contains notes on the chances of the College teams at Auckland. After expressing the hope that the College pre-war standard would be reached, the writer continues: —"The bozing team this year may bo expected to give a very good account of itself. Otago are bound to b6 "strong, and Victoria have mo3t oi their stalwarts of last year, so there will certainly be some great oontests. Of Auckland we know practically nothing, but we may anticipate trouble. Canterbury's boxing men have been, strenuously training right throughout the long vacation, and the struggle for places has been keen. In the heavy-weight Craven is splendidly fit, and ha 3 improved enormously during the past year His characteristics are quickness and terrific punching power. Lawther, our middle, has improved in •speed and hitting power out of all knowledge. He enjoys boxing only when the opposition is of the severest. Farquharson, the has power behind his p'-i:ch, both left and right, and can mix it or stand off, and serve it up to his own taste, so that Rapson and J«une, the small men of the team, have ready support in their bi-? brothers when the opposition looks at all dangerous. Talking it all through, the Boxing Club, though it lias not yet celebrated its first birthday, is keen, and right out After business at Auckland next, month.

"TTie debating, also, may well Tall to our lot again. One of our last year's winners ii available, and Archer will be well mpported in the wordy warfare by J. B. Batchelor. Victoria will have two new representatives as usual. Otasro will presumably r<ilv ngam on Morre'.l, a hardened disputant, and Auckland on Davis, another veteran. Altogether the outlook here is distinctly promising, and the subject affords plenty of ecope for both fen-id ontory and hard common-sense. It is believed that Canterbury College can furnish both.

"The most hopeful canvass of our chances in athletics reveals no prospect of winning the shield; but we have gTeat hopes of lo3» ing that badge of ignominy, the wooden spoon. Victoria, with Tracy, Griffin, Moore, and JacStPon, have a very strong team, as also have Auckland in Perry, Grierson, and Webber. It is anticipated -hat the fight for th-s pr"mienfhin will be waged by these two. Of Otago nothing -is known, except that they have lost some of their field events men, and walkers', who have always been the backbone of their team. We, ourselves, shall have almost a one-man team, and it behoves all College men to pray for Buckhurst's physical welfare until Easter. We are bv no means over optimistic in hoping that he will win tin 120 yds hurdles, and the high jump, and get at least second place in the long jump. If A. W. Pago can reproduce his form of (he New Zealand Championships he should win the walk handsomely. Of the others, D. H. Black, R. O. Page, and Calder seem to have the "best chances of picking up some stray points. Soma of onr men, make their dobiit at this tournament, so against such competition that of Victoria and Auckland wo indulge no fond hopes for this year."' The writer says that in tennis the chances of the local representatives fair. Newa from Ehmedin says that A. W, Sims is dcfi-„ Tiitely not playing for Otago. The Tournament Fund at present etanda at £230, nnd- the Stpdents' ApsocintWi executive is finding tho balance of the £350 required to eend the team to Auckland

H. Crabb hns been selected to represent Canterbury Col-r-ge in tKe welter-weight class in the boxing championshipa
