He has been president of tihe Wellington Academy, and has shown his paintings at all the annual exhibitions. On Wednesday evening Mr V. 0. Peters, who for a- number of years has been choirmaster at Edgewaie road Methodist Church, was presented, on behalf of tho Edgeware road Church and friends, with a piano, on the occasion of hi-j forthcoming marriage. Accompanying tho piano was also the gift of a stool from the juvenile choir. Mr J. B. Dunlop, of Oamaru, th# New Zealand chess champion, will Mfe the Dominion on April 12th. provided the steamer arrangements suit, and wffl arrive in Melbourne about April 18th to tako part in tho Australian chess ohampionship tournament, which will commence the following day. Mr Davies, of Dunedin, the other competitor from New Zealand, is already on his way to Australia. At Kaiapoi last evening, the Territorials and Senior Cadets presented their instructor in military duties, Ser-geant-Major W. R. Pike, who is Wing retrenched, with a, shaving outfit. The presentation was made by Sergeant H. Turnbull, who referred to the excellent relations that had always existed between the recipient and the donors, and wished him every success in the future.
