The remarkable success of Mr H. J. Finlay t a recent Beverly -scholarship holder, was reported to the Otago University Council on Tuesday by tho Chancellor, the Rev. Dr. Cameron, who drew particular attention to the marks awarded Mr Finlay. He gained the senior scholarship in chemistry, and was second for the senior .scholarship in physics, being only seven marks behina the winner. He gained the chemistry scholarship, with 97per cent, in each of two papers. Tho council, said Dr. Cameron, had good reason to be satisfied that they bad given this young man a Beverly scholarship. He was, very severely nandicapped in that he' had never walked and never would walk. Dr. Macdonald mentioned that Mr Finlay had also gained a prize for poetry. The council decided to send him a message of congratulation on his great success. Dr. Macdonald at the same time drew attention to the fact that seven of the senior scholarships this year had been won by Otago. and it was decided to offer the council's congratulations to the teachers of the successful jjtaderita,
