DURHAM STREET METHODIST CHURCH.
ANNIVERSAET OELEBEATIONS.. The celebrations in 'connexion with the fifty-sixth anniversary of the Durham street Methodist Church were concluded last.night with a concert and social m the schoolroom, the, Rev. W. Ready presiding over a large attendance. Musical and'other items weregilen by Misses Oiga Wacked,-Tattle,- Joyce, Staff, and E. Frye, Revs. Frank Gorman «nd T. E. Brady,. Messrs Preeoott, Penfold, and H. BWfeley. Mr Ernest .P'rth acted 1 as accompanist.
The annual stated that in compliance ' with. Lite unanimous invitation of the circuit, the Rev. W. Ready had been reai>pointed for a second term.' 'A year ago there were associated with the Church 263 -Benior and 22 jUnipr members; to-day there are .283 and 26 respectively. The Sunday School returns showed the number of ■scholars on the toll to.be 149, with, an average attendance of 108, the officers and teachers numbering 17 During the past twelve months-there hod'been a considerable 'increase in the membership of the young men's attdt young women's Bible classes; also in the primary department of the sohoul. - jPhe balance-sheet' showed the receipts for the thirteen'monthe ended Muroh 31st to le £742 6s lOd, and the expenditure. £706 158 lid. The sum of £2OO had bseu promised to go to the extinguishing of the; debt on the parsonage arte, provided that' the .Church raised a sihvikr sum. : It was hoptd that within five years, by means of various efforts, the trust property of the Church would be free from debt. Votes of thanki were to ' Sister Edith and Mrs Hawkins tott decorating the church weekly, and to' Miss Prudhoe. for having decorated it for the anniversary.
