The degree of Doctor of Engineering Jias been conferred on Sir John Monosh. This is the first occasion of tho conferring of this degree by Mol bourne University.
[Lieut.-General Sir John Monash, G.C.M.G., K.C.8., V.D., 8.A.. D.C.L., LL.D., who commanded the Australian Army Corps in Fiance from May to November, 1918, was educated in Melbourne, where ho graduated in Arts, Engineering, and Law. Ho was in practice from 1884 till the outbreak of war as a civil engineer.] SMALLPOX IN~A STEAMER. (Received April 24th, 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, jjpril 24. The steamer Wonganella, from Batavia, has been quarantined with a casa of smallpox on board. TALKED OUT. (Received April 24th, 11.45 p.m.) MELBOURNE, April 24. In the House of Representatives Mr Frank' Brennan's, motion for the adjournment to. discuss the position of the Prime Minister in relation to his acceptance of the gift of £25,000, was talked out.
