SUMMIT ROAD RESERVE.
GOVERNMENT SUBSIDY GRANTED A petition signed.by 92 prominent residents of Christchurch and North Canterbury was recently forwarded +0 the Prime Minister, asking that the gift 0f.£500 from Mr G, Bowron. on behalf of his late, son, Mr G. L Bowron, towards the purchase of the Parkinson's Bush Reserve at Kayfcuna, be recognised by a £ for £ subsidy. Mr H/G. Ell, inspector of the {summit Roads Reserves, received word yesterday from the i/:ting-PrimeMinis-ter, Sir Francis Bell, that the Government had decided to grant the subsidy, provided*'that the remainder of the purchase money were raised by the public. The total liability ifl £1368Mr Bowron's gift, with ttuv subsidy, amounts to £IOOO. and Mr Ell has a sum of £44 in hand, being the excess of rental over interest, so that only i&* is necessary to ensure the reserve for the public. Mr Ell has seen Mr Parkinson's solicitors, who have expressed themselves very well' satisfied with the position. Mr Ell proposes to make an immediate appeal to the public to raise the small sum neded to acquire the reserve free from -debt. . Mr G. H. Bullard, the lately-appoint-ed Commissioner of Crown Lands, with Mr A. W. Duncan, secretary of the Summit Road Scenib Reserves Association,., and Mr H 7«. Ell, Inspector of the Association, paid a visit to the Parkinson reserve yesterday, and Mr Bullard expressed himself as highly delighted with it, and with the various other reserves under the control or the Association.
