UNREGISTERED FIREARMS.
OWNERS BEFORE COURT. Two owners of ■unregistered- revolvers appealed before Mr V. G. Day, S.M., at. the Magistrate's Court yesterday. Arthur Smith pleaded guilty to ;i charge of being the owner of an unregistered revolver. He kept the weapon under lock and key, Jio stated. Ho was a railwayman, and was frequently sent away to isolated places. HJ3 wire was a. nervous woman,. and he kept the revolver so thtrt, she might be protected. • Senior-Sergeant'Kelly: Your wife says eho doesn't want the pistol near the house. Defendant: She told nie a different story this morning. A fLno of 5s was inflicted, an order also being wade for confiscation of the revolver. Defendant unnounccd his intention of applying for the return of the weapon. Daniel Tranter (Mr F. S. AVilding) pleaded not guilty to a charge of being in possession of an unregistered firearm. ■• • Mr Wilding said that defendant had applied at the Police. Station in January for a registration form, and had been told to call again as the supply of forma liad run out. On March 6th he called again at the Police Station, and got registration forms. On the same day a complaint was laid against him, and a, police search revealed tlio revolver. Counsel submitted that the case should b& dismissed.
Sergeant O'Grady stated that defendant's nam© ji - as not on the list of thoso who applied for forms. His .brother had made application. The Magistrate convicted defendant, but imposed no penalty. An ordor was made the confiscation of the revolver.
