An appeal hue been made by the Uritish Legation at Peking, and his Excellency the Governor—General has also received the following appeal from tie Chairman of the British Ptmine Relief Committee, Peking:—'ln continuation of the telegraph appeal addressed to you.last November, I have the honour Jo b r mg before vour notico the vory urgtent need for contribution towards famine relief in North China. The condition of tho peasants is desperate indeed. Many millions arc actually starving, trying to subsist on leaves of trees and roots. The Chinese Government are doing all they can under very difficult circumstances; and, to supplement their efforts, an efficient and reliable British organisation has been established-for the purchase of grain elsewhere and for its distribution to the sufferers; but our fnnds are totally inadequate to copa with such utter and widespread lack of tha necessaries of life. Wo ask for .your help. This matter having been brought to the notice of the Bishop and Standing Committee, we w?ro instructed to make an appeal to all Congregations in the Diocese "to make an offering for this very urgent need on Sunday, Acril 21th, or its soon thereafter as possible. We suggest iv retiring collection after each service on that day. Will you kindly read this letter to your cor,orr?gntion next Sunday, and urge libatal contributions?
