. _ _—.*>__—» . MB JOHN CATHQUIT WASON, M.P. LONDON, April 1». Tho death has occurred of Mr John Cathcart Wason, member of tho House of Commons for, Orkney and Shetland. __ ■ ? The late Mr J. Cathcart Wason was well known in Canterbury. Ho waft* ft fairly early settler, and took,up land near ltakaia, naming his homestead "Corwar," after his. birthplace in Ayrshire, where he whs bom in 1848. UM brother, the lit. Hon. Eugeno Wason, P. 0., was also a-member of the House of Commons. Mr Wason, who was ft barrister of the Middle Temple* left t New Zealand'over twenty yeans ago, his property at llakaia being purchased by the late Mr Drummoncl. Ho was in tho New Zealand Parliament for several sessions. In 1876 he was elected as the 'representative for Coleridge, and in 1881 lie won tho Wakanoi teat, and in 1806 he was returned as *f bo member for Sclwyn.' After retiring from farming in New Zealand Mr Wason returned to Britain, and in 1900 lio waj elected to the Houso of Commons, and was re-elected in 1902. 1906, and 1910. alid at the time of his death wag the representative of Orkney and Shetland. Ho is survived by a widow.
Ono of, the best-known architects in Auckland, Mr John Currio, died on Sunday jut his residence, Wood street, Ponsonby, at tho age of 70„v«*»rs. Doring his forty-six years' residence m Auckland Jio planned and supervised tho erection of many important building*, amongst them being tho original V-f-C-Wock at' the corner of Quocn and Victoria streets. L. D. Natban'a warehouse in High street and etore hi Customs street, and P. Hayman and Co/s warehouse in Customs street. Mr Carrie- also erected a nambar* of fine hotels, including the Grand at Rotorua... Many of the Otago mounted men of the 3rd Reinforcements wul regret to hear of the death of Mr Henry Ford, which occurred at tho residenco oflus parents, Mr and M» LB. Iwd, Heddon Bush, Southland. Tho late Mr Ford was one of the first to enlist from Southland, and he aaw aarvico. both in Gallipoli and* IVance, being at tho evacuation of Gallipoli. Tho sard winter in France broke down a robust coftstiflltion after three years' sorvico. Ho leaves a widow and one child.
