MINERS' STRIKE.
DEADLOCK ON WAGES QUESTION SHGETAGE OP COAL. (Br Cable—Prefea (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) IyONtKJN, April 20. The coal s'trike deadlock is no nearer solution. Both sides are issuing propaganda matter, but the problem iomains essentially the same. Though the , executive bf the Miners' Federation is i again in London, there is no prospect of the re-opening of negotiations this week. Everything depends on Friday's*, national conference of delegates, wflucl! i will nrobablv continue all Saturday. Though thtj'mnjorltv of the coalfields are standing out for'a national pool, it i is expected that the result of Fndav s conference will be a determined attempt to negotiate- at least a temporary settlement. ! The-number members of tho executive say that so long as fair and reasonable" wages are naid it matters little "whether they come" through tho pool or elsewhere. If negotiations are hot -resumed, a proposal will be made for a voluntary . levy oil all ttnidns affiliated with tho Trade Union Congress to enable vlici miners to continue stride. Glasgow has only 1000 tons of coal. It is expected that there will be none available for.hriiiseiholdcrs next week. Morpeth (Northumberland) has become like Klondike. Thousands of* miners find women armed with, picks find shovels have tnketi possession of the old mine works, and havo'ttirinellcd 20 feet under the river. Coquet and have made valuable 'hauls of coal, from which pome miners.made £6 a day. "Lady Carlisle has forgotte the royalty rights and given the miners a free" hand. (Received April 21st>, 8.10 p.m.) ''. LONDON, April 21. , The Miners' Federation, replying to the owners' offer, describe it. as vagllo and meaningless. They declare that a National "Wages Board will be valueless without a national pool. , . ' ''■ I-'T-" 11l ■ '
