AVIATION FOR DEFENCE.
TO TH* IDITOR O* "'THE PUIS." \ Sir, —I thank you sincerely for your' note drawing attention to my offer of prizes for essays on "Tho Use ofc Aircraft in tho Defence of New Zealand,'' but you have rather misunderstood my motive by saying that you do not suppose that I expect more than that it "will lead n good many people to give some thought to a subject which is likelv to be of very high importnnco to the Dominion in time to come." The above is certainly a part of my motive, but I hope also that the essays may contain suggestions which will be of value to the Defence Department, And my liopo is shared by Sir Heat on Rhodes, the Minister of Defence, who wrote me, "I very much appreciate your notion, and shall be deeply interested in the scheme, ns I feel sure it will result in tho publication of vain- , able opinions by experienced aviators.'' —Yours, etc., HENRY F. WIGRAM. A April 20th, 1921.
