Mr E. J. Watt, of Australia, and for-] merly of Hawke's Bay, arrived from Sydney by the Niagara on Friday. The Hon. Sir Thomas Mackenzie, M.L.C., will leave for England on Sat-1 urday next. Mr H. Gerard, recently secretary to tho Sampan Administrator, has been appointed secretary to the Public Ser-, vice Stores Tenders Control Board.

Mr E. A. Holmes, formerly resident inspector in New Zealand of the Union Bank of Australia, Ltd., has been appointed a New Zealand director of tho Australian Mutual Provident Society. The Hon. D. T. Fleming was again nominated by the Otago Education Board to represent Otago on the Council of Education, says a Press Association telegram from Dunedin.

Mr Donnelly, whois a young Christchurch man, artwi a» frown during 'Mr Raymond's recent absence in England. Ho is the eldest son of the late Air M. Donnelly, who was a well-known Christchurch solicitor. Mr Arthur Donnelly was educated at the Christchurch Boys' High School, and he graduated at Can teiDiiry College and was admitted to the Bar by Mr Justice Denniston in 1911. He served in France with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, and took part in the memorable operations at Passchendaele, returning invalided in 1919. On resuming practice he joined the firm of Messrs Raymond and Stringer, and has been prominently before the piiblic in connexion with important criminal "cases, notably the Timaru murder trial, in which he secured the'conviction of Reginald Matthew*.
