MAGISTERIAL WEDNESDAY. (Before Mr V. G. Day, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. A first offender was convicted and fined sb, in default 24 hours' imprisonment. Maurice Brown, a third offender, was" convidted and fined 10s, or 48 hours' imprisonment. THEFt.' James Cromwell and John McDonald were jointly charged with having, on April 15th, stolen '.from the Metropolitan Private Hotel, a suit-case and contents, valued at £2l), ■the property -of Eileen Mabel Williamson. _ Cromwell was convicted and sentenced to six months' imprisonment, and McDonald was convicted and ordered to come up fox sentence when called upon. REMANDED. Harold George, aged -30 years, who absconded some months ago while on bail, and who was- recently extradited from Adelaide, wes charged with having, on November 15th, at Christchurch, stolen from th-3 person of John Douglas the sum of £45, and having, at Addington on the same date, attempted ito steal irom the. person of some person unknown. On the application of {He police, he was remanded to appear again on April 22nd. ' DISMISSED. A charge asainst Harold' Leslie McFariano, of having committed rape on a married woman, .was dismissed, the Magistrate holding that no jury would convict on the evidence before the Court:
