GOVERNORS AS RIVALS. A few days ago at the City green, Sydney, the Goverrior-G&neval, Lord Forster, and Sir Walter Davidson, State Governor, were the guests of the City Bowling Club. They were, welcomed by the president of the, club, who was supported by the president of the New South Wales Bowling Association. Lord Forster disclaimed any' knowledge of the fine, points of the art of bowling, put he admitted that he- had sent the "woods" alongi occasionally on his own. lawns. Sir Walter Davidson eaid that ho recognised thftt Lord Forster had achieved a great reputation aa an athlete. Lord Forster ■ had done well at everything, but he—Sir Walter—waa not good at anything. (Laughter.) Sir* Walter Davidson referred to tho fact that both Lady Forster ond Dame Margaret Davidson were directly descended from Sir Richard Grenville. who'played in tho historic match at;. Plymouth _ Hoe, . when tho Spanish Armada hove in sight. The large gathering which witnessed tho play included all the prominent bowlers in the* metropolitan area. Considerable interest vns shown by experienced spectators as to' how the Vice-Regal representatives would "shape" as bowlers. In tho rink in which Lord Forster and Sir Walter Datidson were opposed it was n. very even game. Lord Forster showed that he was not altogether a novice; but Sir Walter Davidson, taking) instructions, from his third mail; made some very fine shots. Lord' Forster, by ah. excellent shot, inade the score oven at the end of 15 heads, 13 all. In the other rinks the bowling was just as- keen to win for either the Governor-General or the Governor. Whenever a good shot was made by either Lcrd Forster or Sir Walter Davidson theTe was considerable enthusiasm.

The final scores of the match vrere: —Lord Forster'g team, 57; Sir "Walter. Davidson's, 50.
