HOUSE NUMBERS.
TO THE EDITOR Ot "Tfth PRESS." . Sir,—Your description of I>r. Collins' chart of organisation for Red Cross work during an epidemic makes no mention of the necessity of Retting houses better numbered, and streets named, a fault which caused the loss of an immense amount of time and money during the influenza epidemic. In my own case it more than doubled the cost pf motor-cars, and greatly reduced the number of cases I was able to visit m a day. It also led to many serious cases not being seen till the following day, or dying before they could be sent to the hospital. Especially in the suourbs, no one can appreciate the difficulty, much worse at night, of finding a house. The matter has been explained to tho Citv Council several times, but they, while expressing sympathy. always sny thero is no money available, although many councillors voted tor, buying paintings for the Art Gallery and many other luxuries. Why ennnoft the Council follow the excellent example of the Riccarton borough, and send a man round to paint tho numbers on the gates? Also, name plrites aro required at every street crossing, and not merely at tho ends of'tho streets. Tho time lost in looking for houses every day and night is quite serious. Any candidate promising to get this done can depend on my vote.—Yours, etc., MEDICAL PRACTITIONER •
