SOUTH AFRICAN RAILWAYS.
A, HEAVY. DEFICIT. (By Cable—-Press Association—'Copyright,) (Australian aid N.Z. Cable Association.) OAtPE TOWN, April 18. The Minister of Railways, in introducing the Railway Budget in the Assembly, stated that the accumulated deficit at the end of 1920 was £2,5Q0,000. The estimated expenditure during the coming year was £26,000,000, and the revenue £25,500,000) making a total, deficit of £3,000,000. It was hoped to wipe out the deficit iby rigid economy, and by postponing proposed extension's. The Minister stated tha.tr* the railway revenue was falling off to on alarming extent. '■
