AUCKLAND SITTINGS. (PRESS ASSOQJATIOir TJMUJRAM.) AUCKLAND, April 18. Tho Hospital Commission resumed today. ' Mr Ellis, chairman of the Whongarei Board, suggested that tho Government should raise funds for pressing work by mortgage, redeemable in the ordinary way, bv levy and subsidy, and that tho jrovernjuent should subsidise maintenance expenditure £ for £ on tho total not requirements of all hospital boards. His Board'B experience in ordering mipplies through Government Departments was not wholly satisfactory. Mr W. Wallace gave evidence on behalf of the Auckland Hospital Board. He said tho Hoard approved tho present Government capital subsidy of £ for £. Tho best way to meet tho heavy cost of the'proposed capital works would bo for tho Government to borrow., say, £1,000,000, to bo re-loaned to the boards, -..-..•, ... ■ A A discussion followed on Government subsidies for maintenance, Mr Wallace contending that the Government should bear half tho ccst.
