FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. .he fortnightly meeting of the ChristchurcU Accountant Students' Association was held laet night, Mr J. S. Day (president) occupying tho chair. Thero was an uttendanco of about fifty moniber*. A letter woa received from the Ot-ago University Faculty of Commerce accepting the invitation of the Society for a debate to be held in Dunedin, and suggesting that tb« dato should not bo later than June 20th. The letter also stated that tho Dunedin. Society wished that the members of the debating team should bo confined to students. orly, find not to qualified accountants. Tho matter was referred to the committee to mako final arrangements with Dunedin. Tho New Zealand Accountants ■ and Auditors' Association wrote, offering a prize of £3 2s, to ba awarded jn any competition which the Society thought best. Mr James Morrison delivered a paper on "Liquidations, Reconstructions, and Amalga' matiou of Limited Companies." Tho lecturer gave a clear and concise account of the various methods of dealing with tho transactions regarding the distribution of capital in regard to liquidations, and of tho methods of teeonstmoting capital, giving many ilhistruj tions of the absorptjorf of one company hy another, and pointing out the best methods, from the accountancy view and for the purpose of examination answers, of dealing with tho book entries. At the conclusion tho lecturer answered a number of questions, and was accorded a hearty voto of thanks on tho motion of Mp Mcllraith. Tho ohaiTinon announced that at the next meeting of tho Society, on M'ay 2nd, Profesoo« J. B. deliver «v lecture on "The Industrial Unrest." It was decided to make the meeting a public one, and to issue invitations to the Canterbury Society of Accountants, and also to the president and membero of the Chamber o£ Commerce.
