A large piaper mill at.Vargo, Sweden, was - recently rebuilt upon, the most modern lines. Formerly'2o.ooo tons of coal were consumed annually and tho problem of maintaining this supply was a very eeVious one, but at the present time there is. no coal whatever consumed at tho plant. The boiler house contains seven "electric" boilers, each of 30(50 hbrse-jpower, and the current enters'the boilers at a pressure of 10,000 * volts without having to v be stepped down. Each of the boilers is provided with three electrodes, and tho coupling arrangements are such that steam generation can be regulated within 5 per cent. It stated that full steam pressure can be raised in from five to ten'minutes after switching' on the current, and considerable economy in attendance is obtained, as, compared wiUi coal firing.
