As on the opening, day, thei fieldß wero largo; and the racing interesting, but backers were! not euocessful, as only one favourite, Tsirav.'hiti, won during the day. The Fordell-trained three-year-old F.ouitnble was installed favourite rin the Ava Handicap, but in the back stretch he stumbled mid lost his rider, who escaped unhurt. Spare Moment .led till within 100 yards' from home, when Halcyon and Beloved chalhnjred, the fust-named winning easily. All started in, the Kairanga Hurdles. The; favourite, Sir Roseberry, led for a mile, when Lord Kagar took charge stud beat the. fast. finishing Fisher by half a length, with/ Miiiaetotara o. poor third. After tv/enty minutes' delny ot the post, the field in the Stonylnnst Welter Handicap moved' away to a strag-gliritr start, the- favourite. Handy, being belly left. Mustard Pot be?an smartly, and led from start to flnisHv but had to bo shaken u,p to «tall off Bonny Briar, who was the outsider oft the field. The top-weight, Simonide-s, ran well under his heavy burden, and finished close up third. Verbosity and Rose- Wreath, two of the fancied division, failed to nhow up. This 17th Manawatu Stakes was contwtel by a field of five. The position at the start was, Raceful on the rails, with The Hawk, Silver Link, Soldier's Love, and Absurdum in that order. From an even despatch Silver Link, led Tho Hawk and Absurdum for two furionyn,' when The Hawk tool; charge, and, gallopin? freely, won nicely from Silver Link and Absurdum. The Hawk was much improved by the race he had on the day but Absurdum lacked dash, and evidently felt the effeots of hi' effort in.the Mannwatu Sires' Produce St*kos. Silver Link failed to concede .251b to bar younger rival, but nevertheless registered a good performance. Raceful and Soldier's Love were outclassed. . Prince Forouz and Thespian practically had the CJoverlea Nursery Handicap to themoelves. Both began smavtly, and in a clows finish the former won by a, lonsr neck, ■ the next to finish being Kilreid awl Comic. Speculation was bri»k in the Longbtim Handicap, the pool being; one of the- biggest of the. Meeting. From start to finish the rac« was full of inten«i. Rouen jnuimsr the verdict from Rude, Matatua, and Inaurrect:on. Malaga led until a furlong from home, when he retired beaten. Kilrush, the favourite, was never prominent, but Rouen and Rude wero always we' 4 placed. All Started in the Adderaton Welter Han. Idioap. Tainvwhiti «;oii comfortably from Amber Tips, a winner on tho opening- day, who was a?ain allowed to pay a false dividend. Bonibrook was a good third, with Malwve close w> fourth. A successful day's racing concluded with the Borough Handicap. Bindle, Listowel, and Parisian IXiamond were backed to the extent of over 1000 sots each, and in a great race Listowel, Golden Bubble, and Bitkie crossed the line locked together, the judge deciding 1 in favour of Listowel. Murihiku was prominent for 5J furloays, when she faded mi't of the race. The favourite, Bindle, did not 'begin so smartly ns svru« of the others, but finished well. HAWKE'S BAY J.C'3 AUTUMN MEETING.
