N.C.O.'S CLUB. Tho annual meeting jOf the Christchurch Garrison Non-commissioned Officers Wtto was held on Monday. The secretary s report showed the club to be in a good financial! position. Tho following officers were elected: —Patron, Colonel the Hon. G. J. Smith; president, Warrant-Officer Glanvillo; vicepresidents, S.S.M. Stevenson, S.M. Roes; secretary, Sergt. Samuda; treasurer, Scrgt. Turner; committee, Q.M.S. French, Scrgtfl. Scarff,.Moil, Small, Munday, Cununina, Pepper, Corplo. Conipson, Carey, Dixon, -and Murphy. WALTHAM SCHOOL COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of tho Waltham School Committee was held on Monday. Present—Mr C. V. Harvey (chairman), Mesdames Milton, Besley, and Wilson, and Messrsi Mortlock, Hudson, Forde, Wilson, and. Watkins. Tho headmaster reported that the average attendance was. 646. The secretary was instructed to send a letter of sympathy to MV Smith, assistant-headmaster, in the illnosa of his wife. The annual report and balancesheet were read and passed for presentation, at the annual meeting of householders. Al vote of thanks was passed to Messrs E. Gaeeon and W. Patrick for materials, presented to the school cricket team. Aa it would, be the last meeting of the committee, the chairman thanked the for the courtesy and consideration shown him in tha past. Votes of thanks were passed to tho chairman, Mr C. V. Harvey, and the treasurer, Mr Mortlock, for their valuable services during the year. < SABBATH SCHOOL UNION. The bi-monthly meeting of the Presbyterian Sabbath School Union was held in the Pumner Church on 1 Tuesday, the Bey. W. Tanner presiding. There was an attendance of over fiity teachers and friends. The Rev. y. McAra welcomed the visitors. After the usual business, Mr Tanner introduced Sister Jessie, who addressed the meeting on Maori mission work, and appealed to the teachers for their support. A hearty vote of thanks waß accorded Sister Jessie for her interesting address. At tho close of the meeting the local teachers provided refreshments. The Rev. N. O. White made reference to the departure of Miss Gibb, who is talcing up social em-vice work in Auckland, and wished her a!l sucooss. On the motion of Mrs- Erwin, a vote of thanks was passed to the Sumnefl teachers for their kindness in providing refreshments. LOYAL BENEVOLENT LODGE. Tho Loyal benevolent Lodge, 1.0.0.P., M.U., held its usual fortnightly meeting on Tuesday, N.G. Bro. T. bunan presiding. Eleven members were reported on the sick list. One maternity allowance was passed. The valuation of the old lodge hall site was received. P.G. Bro. James was appointed to arrange the syllabus. Tha representatives at the recent district meeting presented their reports. Tho district secretary notified that the Purple ,and Past Officers' Degree meeting! would be held at Addington on April 26th. MISTEETOE LODGE, No. 3, TJ.A.O.D. At the fortnightly meeting of the Mistletoe Lodge, A.D. Bro. P. L. Booth presided. Siclc pay amounting to £ll lfe 8d was passed for payment, also a, maternity allowance of £5, and . a . funeral claim of £SO. Two new members were initiated and one candidate was proposed. A welcome was extended to the, officers and brothers of tho Oak of Sydenham Lodge. A friendly game of card* was played, the result being a win for tho visitors by 22 games to 21. Light refreshments were afterwards served. When Maurice Maeterlinck was in America, a magnate of the cinema trade commissioned him to write n motionpicture scenario. Maeterlinck was not very sure about the business, and when the great man came on board sfsp to see him away, he said, half apologetically. "I hope I'll be able to write something acceptable."
