ATTACKED BY SWORDFISH.

AEAB DHOW SUNK. ALLAHABAD (India), April 2. : An Arab dhow from Cutch, Bombay, having crossed the Indian Ocean, was near .Mombasa, British East Africa, when a giant swordfish attacked the vessel. The crew fought for hours, endeavouring to drive the fish away, but after repeated charges it succeeded in piercing the hull with its snout. The vessel sank immediately. The crew managed to swim ashore, and readied Mombasa on foot after terrible 'jiidships. [Swordfish frequently attack not only small vesesls, but large ships, and, in some cases, with tremendous force. They have driven the "sword" through copper-sheathing, oak-plank, and timber to a depth of nearly 10in, part of the sword projecting into the, inside of the ship. Sometimes several attick a ship in company, apparently mistaking it for a whale or other cetacean. In most such cases the sword is broken off. Specimens of planking pierced by several swords, which remain in it, ?re preserved in the British Museum.]
