MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.
* CITIZENS* ASSOCIATION. CAMPAIGN. The Citizens' Association intends to open its campaign with a great meeting in the Choral Hall to-morrow evening, at 7.30. Mr H. Holland will preside, and it 'is intended that Mr Flosher's speech shall he devoted to tho financial aspects of the work of the City Council. Mr Win, Machin will speak on "Ideals of Civic Administration," and Mr C. P. Agar will fulfil his promise to the Labour i'arty and make a critical examination of their proposals. During the week following, tho Association will hold two or three meetings each night in various parts of tho • city, and electors, will have the opportunity ,of hearing the views of all. candidates, especially of those who are making their first appearance. Mr John It. Brunt, a cnndidate for the City Council, opened his campaign last evening in the Rolleston street Hall, Linwood, when he addressed a largely-attended and enthusiastic meeting of his friends and supporters. Mr A. R. Ragg ,occupied the chair. Mr Brunt said that ho was in entire accord with the Citizens' Association's platform of economy and efficiency in administering the city's affairs. He was right up against the disloyal tactics ot the extreme Lahour section, and he firmly believed that his opinion was shared by thousands of loyal, moderate working men and women._ Liu,wood had always given hyn a big majority in his previous Parliamentnry i and municipal campaigns, and he was' confident that his friends and all those who did not favour Red Fedisin would rally round him on April 27th, and givo him a victory in Linwood. The Hon. G. W. Russell, Messrs J. A. Flesher, .Horace Thompson, and E. H. Andrews addressed the meeting jv support of the candidate. Mr John Burgess gave an interesting address, explaining the working of the preferential voting system. Strong committees were Bet up to further Mr Brunt's interests in Linwood, and it was announced that he Ijivould address a public meeting on Thursday next, April 21st, in Rolleston street Hall. The meeting closed with the pinging of the National Anthem. Mr William Machin has been nominated as a candidate for the City Council by Messrs George Harper, Geo. T. Booth, William lleece, and C. Morton Ollivier. Mr W. H. Cooper has been nominated for a seat on the City Council and Hospital Board. Mr T. H. Harker, Port Chrifltehurch League cnndidate for tho Harboui Board, will spenk at North Brighton, in the B-irf Club's Pavilion, to-night, and in the Pier Hall to-morrow night.
