The colt, if he- is sent across, will go into P. Nolan's charge. Spanner, who seems to have lost all form was recently purchased by Mr H. W. Burch, of Hamilton He carried his new owner's colours for the farst time at Avondale last Wednesday, but gave r.n indifferent display. Silver Link, the winner of the North Island Challenge Stakes, has during her four seasons' racing contested 4f races, of which she has won lb, been placed second 12 times, third 7 times, and unplaced 12 times. She was bought for 80 guineas as a yearling, and has won for her owner, Mr A. Alexander, 8610 sovs in stakes. The Manawatu Racing Club's Autumn Meeting, which opens to-day, will attract a good deal of interest, tor some of the leading two-year-olds will meet in the Sires' Produce Stakes, while the Awapuni Gold Cup, run at weight-for-age over a mile and a. quarter, is expected to bring about another meeting between Duo and Sasanof. The Kaikoura Trotting Club's Annual Meeting takes place to-morrow. P. T. Hogan's tenancy of Rorko's Drift Lodge having expired, the very successful local mentor will probably move on to new quarters m South Canterbury at ah early date (writes Sir Modred in tho "Southland Times"). ,The genial trainer will be very much 'missed in local turf circles, and while he will carry away with him the best wishes of tho Southland racing community the hopo will always- he uppermost that he will one day return tr the south, -where he has done a great deal to foster and encourage the crosscountry game, and he certainly acted the part of pioneer in taking local horses abroad to compete with the best in the land—his success with Magdala in the Winter Cup of 1912 leading to far-reaching results in this direction. He was also the first southern mentor to invade the North Island, when he secured a slight measure of success with a horse called Spinning Flight, and he followed this up in later years by scoring with Kilkee at Trentiiam and taking away some of the prize-money .with Wild Pilgrim. His successes on. foreign, tracks with Rorke's Drift, Almoner, Bengeroop, Bill Perkins, Eleus, Palladioi Honest Tom, Silverspire, Zarkoma, ttteeon, Redshire, Calma, Bed .Pal, Tin Soldier, Golden King, Songbird, and many other horses were all very fine advertisements for the home province as a locality where racehorses could be reared, trained, and raced.
