IRISH PROBLEM.
THE REIGN OF FORCE. BOMBINGS AND SHOOTINGS. (By Cable—Press Association— Copyright.) (Australian and K.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, April'll. Constable Fluke was killed by a bomb, and three others-wounded, while returning from a Protestant church in Creggan, Armagh. Noticing people crowding into a lvotel, they approached. A bomb was thrown and fire opened from tho opposite side of tho road. Constables Doolworth and Boynes were shot in. a street of Kildorrery, and died in a few hours. A large force of civilians made a sensational attack on the London and North-Western Railway Hotel in Dublin, where a number of auxiliary police were staying. After surrounding the building they hurled Mills bombs, poison gas bombs, and bottles of petrol into the hotel precincts, and then used revolvers freely. The police'returned tho fire. After a vigorous fusillade the attackers retired, leaving one dead and two wounded. A number were arrested. - Lowe, a labourer, was convicted ot arson on March 9th during tho Sinn Fein fires in Liverpool, and sentenced to j ten years' penal servitude. ! During the attack on the Northwestern Hotel some of the auxiliaries I fought in their pyjamas and others m shirts and trousers only, and.bare teet, but they pluckily pressed tihe Republicans, who covered the retreat of the main body by raising the drawbridges over tho canal. A small party of rebels were surprised while blowing up bridges and trenching roads at Liscasane, Tralee. One rebel was killed and another wounded, and one auxiliary was wounded. Scores of youths from neighbouring villages invaded Ross Carbery, County Cork, whence police protection lhad beeu withdrawn owing to' the recent attacks on the barracks, and looted the shops. There were fierce fights between the villagers and,the looters, a number being injured on both sides. A BASIS OF PEACE. (Received April 13th, 12.35 a.m.) LONDON, April 11. The Irish Dominion League has authorised its executive to prepare a memorial to tho Government suggesting a basis of peace and procedure likely to bring about the accommodation of Soutnern and Northern interests and aspirations by means of friendly discussions and negotiations. LOED MAYOR OF COBK. NEW YORK, April 11. The Labour Department has announced that Mj O'Callaghan, Lord Mayor of Cork, must leave the country, .the State Department having denied his plea for a political asylum. OCallaghan's status is that of an alien seaman. The law prescribes no time for reshipment, biit the practice is to allow Bixty days from the date of the State Department's ruling.. ■„. i . ' ■ .'■
