OPENING OF SEASON. The' directors fixed upon tho Art Gallery, and nidging by' tho largo attendance in the permanent portion last night, when tho Society opened their season, they made a- cbou» .hat was popular with their members, and is. hiely to further pomihiiso tho Society. Ihe presldent, Mr Churle* S. Thosnas, was 11 J» chair and in welcoming members to their n-w gathering place said 'that the very large attendance was an excellent augury for tno ■niccess of tho season, and was an indication. ""that tho Society would bo jiwlifiad in arftngin" for accommodation for their large rud increasing membership. He announced that the Society's assemblies', instead of being hsld on the night ori which cards were the- principal item, would bo mado bigger affairs. . The programmo opened wita a stirring selection by tho Pipe Barrd,. under PipeMajor Erskiue, and the band "provided tho muaic for the dances later in tho evening. Songs were contributed by Mrs McGillvray, ' Mi- and Mrs Fntqubar* Young (who also gave | a dnet), Mr W. Mackay; recitations were given bv Mrs McJarrow,. Mr R. Malcolm, and Master' Milne; Highland dances were given bv Miss Violet Hobertson. Mr Jfcek Fraser, Mr L. Edginion, and a Highland reel was. > danced bv Misses "Waigh and Hobertson, I ancl Messrs Fraser aad*Edginton. Mrs A. E. Smith played tho accompaniments for the : vocalists, with the exception of those for Mr and Mrs Fareuhar Young, which were played hy Mrs W. Owens. . -
