WEAK MILK.
QUESTION OP BBSPONSIBUtfTY. A well-attended meeting of wholesale dairymen was held on Saturday night, to consider a recent judgment given in the Magistrate's Court by which, it was alleged, a new liability was thrown on tho milk producer in tlie matter ol responsibility for tho quality' of the milk after it had left his possession; his hord test being satisfactory. Mr J. Parlano presided. Tho chairman said tho matter affected the retailers as ntiieh as tho wholesalers, for the new liability could bo thrown by tho customer on to the retailer if tho principle laid down by the Magistrate were to hold. The dahymen considered that as tho question was a most important one an appeal should bo lodged, and the point thoroughly tested. The matter of the methods employed in testing the milkalso required investigation, for. when cream was onco allowed to rise it was a most difficult thing to get a truo sample of milk for testing purpose?, unless the milk was .first heated up <v> 105 degrees and well stirred to enablo the butter-fat to be evenly distributor again throughout the milk. As th« position now stood in the lijht of tho new judgment, a supplier was absolutely at the mercy of tho pariy to whom he sold the milk. After discussion, it was resolved that as tho matter was of such -vita! importance to the whole of tho dairymen, steps should bo taken to have the question tested on appeal.
