*- Acceptances for'the Hororaia Racing Clubs Annual Meeting close- on Mon•dav. Coraedv Prince, who has been in the private sale list for some time, has been purchased by a Palmerston North sportsman. t Swift Flight riclwd himself while contesting the Maiden Plate at Avondale on Saturday last, and could not be started on the second day of the MeetingH. Grav has definitely decided to accept the offer of a retainer to rule in England, and is endeavouring to get a passage on the Niagara, which is due to leave Auckland on the ICth inst. (writes Whalebone in the Auckland ''Star"). Oras- is undoubtedly one ol the best horsemen yet seen.in the Dominion and his career in the Old Country will be followed with interest hy New Zenlanders. The Australinn-l*-ed AVolawa, who did stud dutv for a few years at Mr E. J "Watt's station in Hawke's Bay, and who was transported to Queensland in lfllft, has .again nassed into the hands of Mr K. Ei B" Clarke, in whose colours he won-the Y.R.C. Derby in 1913. Wolawa, who was got by Wallace, and is thus a grandson of Carbine, has sired a number of decent winners, and his inclusion in the Melton Stud should be. the means of bringing him greater opportunities, to the advantage of the Musket line. The ex-Xew Zealand horseman Stan. Rekl. the rider of Compromise, had a peculiar experience in the- Second Steeplechase at Randwiek. Just before the barrier was released he was bitten'on the. leg by Mulgawillah, the winner. Reid suffered great pain, and could not do his mount justice in the first half-mile. After the race he went to the casualty room and had his leg treated, bandages being applied. Luperino met with injuries of an extraordinary character-while contesting the Hurdle Race at Avondale on Saturdav (writes Phsoton in the "New Zealand Herald").' He fell in negotiating the fourth fence,, and on being examined after he was found with a deep jagged wound extending over several inches on his head and neck. How Luperino was injured to such a degree is somewhat difficult to fathom, but it' is surmised that the gelding either came into collision with a portion of the broken hurdle or wa.s struck by the hoof of a -passing horse just when he fell. . , Acceptance for two trotting events at the Hororata R.C.'s Annual Meeting on Monday. Nomination* for the New Brighton T.C.'s Autumn Meeting close on-Wed-nesday. Dav Drift, winner of the lairlie Handicap at Timaru, has been penalised -J.SO3 in'the Ellesmerc County Handicap, at Lecston, to-day. The deputation appointed by the North Island Trotting and Horse Owners and Breeders' Association, to interview the authorities of the Auckland Trotting Club in regard to an improvement in the training track at Alexandra, Park, presented their views on the matter yesterday to tho secretary, Mr C. F. Mark; tho president, Mr J.. Itowe, being absent from town (writes Picador in the Auckland "Herald',' .of' Wednesday last). Mr Mark assured the deputation that they might rely on tho A.T.C. sparing no effort to bring the training track at Epsom up to a standard leaving nr> room for complaint. A visit to Alexandra Park shows that a track 40ft wide is available' for training purposes, and that another 10ft is to be taken in at once. Possibly tho track is a bit on the hard side, but it has to bo home in mind that we arc experiencing a dry spell, and with a. good downpour, matters on that score might be expected to soon right themselves. _ . Our special correspondent telegraphed from Wellington last evening:—Mr W. Stone has asked me to state that Silver Peak is verv sore, and,-though accepted for, she 'will not" bo a runner, if it does hot rain. . Tho weather appears set fine WELLINGTON K.C.'S AUTUMN MEETTNG. Moses, tho owner* of Poitrel, wished for a meeting with Eurvthmic, they hive decided not to ri?k a complete breakdown with their champion, and as the injury he> sustained recently is not improving, it is practicuUy certain (says the •'Sydney Morning Herald") that Poitrol has finished hie racing career, and will go to the. »tnd next.season, but there is just a bare. hope that he may recover sufficiently to permit him to race again. Harry Robinson, who has alway trained Poitrel, decided that there was practically no hope of the son of St. Alwyne standing another r«cc, and, like Poitrel's owners, lie would not care to see thj equine wonder retire from the turf iu a broken-down state. The glamour that now surrounds Eurvthmic places Poitrel eoraewhat in the shadow, but'although Melbourne sportsmen give Eurythmio the title of champion, his performances' do not equal Poitrel's. The rivals only met three tunes, twice at weight for age, and although w.f.a. races a_r« eupposed'to be the highest test> tho two in •which, this pair met in Melbourne were an absolute farce, owing to the alow pace. The other occasion of the meeting of these two champions was in the last Melbourne Cup, when Poitrel gave Eurythmio 10lb and a long, start over the la«t half-mile, nnd beat him "out of eight.". Here -was the test'of a truerun race, so is iff any wonder that Poitrol'si admirers claim that he is the greatest racehorse ever produced in Australia? A glance through his performances 'beaie out this claim, as during his sojourn on the turf he won the Mellwurne Cup (lOst), A.J.C. Summer Cup, Tattereall's Cup, A.J.C. Spring)-' Stakes (twice), and dead heat with Konnaquhair, A.J.C. Autumn Stakes, (twice)i A.J.C. Cumberland Stokes (twice), A.J.C. Plate (twice), Randwiek Plate (twice), A.J.C. Holiday Handicap, and" Rosehill Handicap, and 3ead-heated with Richmond Main ■ in the Roseliill" Ra-wson. Stakes.' Poitrel was second in the Sydney Cup (9st 9lb), A.fT.C. Craven, Plate, und'-O. B. Fisher Plate, and third iu tie V.R.C.* Melbourne Stakes, A.J.C. Members' Handicap, and, Tattersa U's. Spring Handicap. Poitrel started. 36 times for 16 wins and. two dead heats, was second three times, and third three times. He waa only beaten, three times at w.f.a.. Greenstead defeating! him in the Craven Plate, Eurythmio and Greenstead; in.the Melbourne Stakes, and Eurythmio in the C. B. Fisher Plate. Pbi-; irel beat Desert Gold and Gloaming when both were considered invincible. Poitrel's stake -winnings amounted to J!26,919, and it waa confidently expected that he would pes» C&rbine's great total of £29,476, but that will stand for some, time yet.
