TOUR CONTINGENTS AFLOAT. Contrary to expectations (says tho "Dominion"), tho Immigration Department has succeeded in -finding situations for the whole of tho complement of immigrants who arrived in the Dominion recently on tiho steamer Waimana. The Railway Department took a good number of the men, while thoWestport Coal Companv placed the majority of the millers tind a' fair number cl unskilled men; the latteY being taken on as truckers. Auckland district took most of tho farm labourers, all of whom were absorbed. Private contract work at Oainaru and Greyiuouth. absorbed 25 unskilled labourers. ' ' % Having disposed of ,t,hc. Waimana s contingent, the Department is now faced: with tno. problem of finding, work for some 3(X> immigrants who are duo to "arrive at Wellington by tlio Shropshire to-day. Tho steamer is bringing 53 nominated passengers, 107 other assisted passengers, and 130 ex-Imperial soldier.*, who are coming out under the overseas settlement scheme.
