HARPER RIVER DIVERSION.

STATEMENT BY MINISTER. The attention of iho Hon. J. G. Coates has been drawn to the discussion of the Harper river diversion at Wednesday's meeting of me Canterbury Progress League. The position taken up by the Public Works -department is outlined in the followtn telegram, received yesterday, from Mr Coates to tho Editor of "The Press": — "A heavy flood mav alter the present course. 1 am' informed that more than sufficient water is being diverted for requirements. In any case Canterbury can rest assured that the electric supply ivill be maintained. There is no need for ansietv; the Government is fully alive to the interest of you all." '
