HINDU AS SCHOOL TEACHER.
AUCKLAND BOARD'S ATTITUDE. (PRESS ASSOCIATION' TELEgBAU.I AUCKLAND. April 6. The question of employing a Hindu as a teacher under the Education Board was discussed by the Board last evening. An application from a Hindu for employment as a probationer was referred to the Education Department for its opinion, and the reply, from the Department stated there was no objection to the applicant beinjj employed. When this reply was rend the secretary, Mr Purdie, said he would like the Board's direction in regard to such appointments. Mr J. Boddie said that as a matter of public'. principle he strongly objected to the employment of men of coloured races in our schools. . There were applicants of our own blood for positions as teachers. The education of our children .was of the utmost importance, and it was the duty of the Board to exercise extreme care in regard to all appointments. A motion by Mr Boddie, that the applicant be not employed, was carried without dissent.
