■•'• BECOONITION OJF BEOENT , CONTEST WIN. / A woli-atlended meeting'"w:is hold in tho Wooleton Borough Council Chamber last Evening to d»scues" % the best method of recognising the -recent victory of the Woolston, Band at the baud contest in Nelson. v The Mayor of Woolston, Mr C. Hill, who presided, jead a number of apologies from leading Woolstotv residents, also Mr J. McConibo, M.P,, each of .whom expressed willingness to assist in 1 any plan decided upon by the meeting. There.was no need, said Mr Hill, to elaborate on the band's success—everyone know about their great victory. After a brief discussion, it wan decided, on tho motion c£ MV ,W. Larconrbe, to tender tho band a smoke concert, and the following committee .was let tip to make the necessary arrangements:— Councillors T. Radcliffe, L. JHarb, and G. S. "White, Messrs W. Lurccmbe, 8.. Yates, H. Markic, and W. Newton, and the Mayor of Woolston ex officio. Cr. h. Hart secretary of tho committee. It w'ae, suggested that an illuminated nddriass should bo presented to the band as a rnt'enfcnto of their victory. I' Cr. Hadcliffo 6Ugge9ted that arrangements I should be made to hold tho amoko concert a: «s early a date as possible, as the musical societies in the city intended to tender.the bund a similar function. . At a meeting- of tho committee subsequent ti. tho general meeting, it was decided to hold the smoke concert on Saturday, April 23rd, in the Druids' Hall, no action being taken as regards the presentation of an illuminated address. It was decided to ask the various industrial firms in Wcolston for donations towards the cost of the function.
